BECAUSE OF HIS NOMINATION TO BECOME A CITY OF THE YEAR, MEDELLIN, IS FADDISH...


 
 
Medellin, best known, in Colombia, like the city of the eternal spring, with a population of 3.5 million of people and an area of : 1,165 sq. km, was nominated like, one of the most innovative city in the world. Some reasons for this inclusion are:
 
•New facilities and landmarks include the España Library and a cultural center in Moravia.
 
•The city’s public utilities company, Empresas Publicas de Medellin, have helped to support community goals and public goals, such as improving education.
 
•In 2011 Medellin opened a large outdoor escalator, allowing residents of the city’s elevated Comuna 13 neighborhood to safely ride down the steep hillside, the size of a 28-story building.
 
•The city has seen great advancement in public transportation, with more than 500,000 residents and visitors using its Metro train system each day. The city also boasts a public bike-share program.
 
•The city’s crime rate has fallen significantly in recent decades, thanks to aggressive local policies.

The Metro system reduces Medellin’s CO2 emissions by 175,000 tons each year.
